Argus 2.0 expanded the skinnable webcam and desktop capture tool with a new resizable skin format, scheduled snapshots, FTP options, overlays, and video capture.

Argus 2.0 was released as a skinnable webcam and desktop capture application with a major focus on flexibility, scheduled publishing, and visual customization.

At its core, Argus was a webcam and desktop camera utility. It supported scheduled FTP uploading, local snapshot saving, video capture with sound, and single-frame captures. The application could also capture webcam images, screen snapshots, or active application windows, making it useful for personal webcam pages, desktop monitoring, and visual status updates.

The biggest change in version 2.0 was a completely new skin format. This new format allowed freeform, resizable skins, giving users more control over the shape and size of the Argus window. According to the original announcement, this made Argus stand out not only as a skinnable application in its category, but also as one that allowed users to resize the interface to match their own desktop setup.

Argus 2.0 also supported multiple captions and image overlays on webcam snapshots. This made it possible to add extra information or visual branding to captured images before they were uploaded or saved.

The release added an option to save snapshots to a local file on a schedule, as well as an option to remain idle on the FTP server during scheduled uploads. These features were useful for users who wanted regular automated publishing without constantly managing uploads manually.

Version 2.0 also introduced a new default skin based on the 545 Studios website design. A deviantARGUS skin, inspired by the deviantART site style of the time, was also included.

The new resizable skin format was not compatible with version 1 skins, although the original announcement noted that older skins could be ported to the new format with relatively little work.

Looking back, Argus 2.0 fits perfectly into the early 2000s desktop customization scene. It combined practical webcam and capture features with the kind of skinning flexibility that mattered to communities built around visual personalization, custom desktops, and creative software interfaces.
