I live in a small town called Lemgo which is in Nordrhein-Westfalen in West Germany. Was born there too but didn´t always live there. Been living in the United Kingdom for one year also.
Sorry to hear about your wife, Mike! My best wishes for you both!

ohhhh Santa Barbara - when i lived in LA we used to go to SB each summer for vacation (about 8 years)
and liked to stay at a place as you enter into SB just off the highway - forget the name now but it had
an all blue roof and was right on the beach and you could get a bungalow to if you wanted - met the
actor ( Lloyd Bridges ) one day out by the pool - they were good times there - we loved it ...
later one of my past jobs as a supervisor had me going to one of our shops there for visits so i
got to know more about SB - Nice ....

Born and raised in Milwaukee Wi; beer town, with a tavern on every street corner.
Hated the winters, so moved to San Francisco Bay area in 1980. Still there, but looks like my wife and I will be heading your way very, very soon,AzDude. Nice to meet you.

I am currently in Aurora, Colorado, but like Christine I got here through a long journey. Started out in Chesapeake, Virginia, then California, NC, Florida, SC, back to Virginia and to Colorado in 1987. Love it here and could never go back to the humidity back east! I have visited Arizona twice but don´t think I would want to live there. Too hot and dry for me!

See Folks the trick here in Arizona is to just get a second job or hit
the casinos ( if you go this route - you have to win - of course ) so you
can afford the electric bill so you can run your AC 24/7 then all is good.......
(he he)
it actually gets cold here in the winter ....
that first week in January is killer ....

It´s a matter of money Sed. Social Security income, retired. $700.00 annual taxes in AZ., as opposed to $7000.00 taxes in CA. $140000.00 house in Az. as opposed to $600000.00 in Ca. Az has great retirement communties, lots of things to do. No school district, low, low taxes. Lived in central valley of Ca for short time. We had sustained days of 102 to 114 in summer. I known Az gets to be 125 in July and " cools " down to the 90´s at night in summer. We THINK we are prepared for AZ summers,we will see.
