The gilded flicker is the largest woodpecker in Arizona. It is a jay-sized woodpecker with a brown barred back, spotted underpart and a black crescent across the chest. It is identified by its golden wings and tail linings, along with its brown cap, gray face and red moustache. It is often found on the ground catching ants.
