Fred, I shot this with the 5D on a tripod set on bulb with a remote shutter release so I could hold the shutter open as long as I wanted without shaking the camera. This photo was taken with the shutter opened for 9 seconds at f4.5 and ISO 100. I opened the shutter about 1 second after the firework was launched. 9 seconds was probably too long as you can see the trees becoming backlit by surrounding light. There is a great deal of trial and error when shooting fireworks. This shot was the best out of 60. At least, with a digital camera, you can get an idea of the results of your shot right away and make some adjustments. I think the your shot was beautiful. BTW, my Canon 5D is for sale as I am going to upgrade to the 5D MarkII.
